The Power of Routines: How Establishing Good Habits Can Propel You Towards Your Goals

When I first began using essential oils as a daily routine, I asked my friend who had enrolled me, where is a good place to start?

As any good friend would ask, she said "Well what are you trying to accomplish?"

Bewildered, I said, "I have no idea..."

Truth be told, I had heard of all my friends finding essential oils to be a huge and amazing addition to their lives. I wanted that feeling as well. I had no clue what essential oils could do for me outside of offering a health upgrade to our son.

Knowing the exact thing you're wanting for your life in this newfound habit, routine, etc is key! But there are a few obstacles to consider before we are truly able to make and keep our healthy habits.

Routines and habits are important to humans. It’s how we are designed. Our root chakra thrives on feeling safe and grounded. When things are a bit chaotic, the root energy center gets a little haywire, and our whole being is off-kilter. Creating solid habits is another way to assist you in thriving through 2025. Don’t let life simply happen to you; make it how you want it. I love how a friend of mine says it: " See it the way you want it!”

If you think you struggle to create routines and habits, allow me to offer a perspective.

Everyone on planet Earth, no matter what their personality, is an exceptional habit keeper. Here, I’ll prove you are a very committed person who is prone to create routines and habits that you will stick with! Below you will see common routines nearly all people have in some form or fashion:

Morning Routines:

  • Waking up: At a consistent time

  • Personal hygiene: Brushing teeth, washing face, showering, etc.

  • Hydration: Drinking water or a morning beverage like coffee or tea.

  • Breakfast: Eating a morning meal or snack.

Work or Study Routines:

  • Commuting: Traveling to a workplace or school.

  • Work focus: Dedicated hours to do something that earns money.

  • Breaks: Taking short pauses to rest or refresh.

Night Routines:

  • Dinner: The main evening meal with family or alone.

  • Relaxation: Watching TV, reading, or other unwinding activities.

  • Personal hygiene: Preparing for bed (skincare, brushing teeth).

  • Sleep: Everyone gets some sleep every day.

Maybe you’re not a breakfast person, but you can’t get me on a technicality. Deep down you know you are a deeply committed person to the things you most desire to do and have. Pretty sure all of us desire to not have dragon breath when we meet others in the morning, hence the personal hygiene.

The reality is, we’d all do well to make and stick to routines so that in the coming year we are vibing so high that only the angels of God can see us!

Below you will find a few common reasons people do not stick to the routines they’ve created. Look over the list and see what resonates with you most, if any. Tomorrow I will come back with some tips on how to create a solid routine that you will be able to stick with.

  • You’re not really feeling it—we must feel the desire on an emotional, subconscious level otherwise it’s a no go. Personal motivation is key!

  • The goals you set are too vague (“I want to be healthy”)

  • The activities to get there aren’t fun or exciting, so it’s hard to care. You must enjoy the routines you’re creating.

  • It all just feels like too much work to even start. Again, note the feeling aspect of it.

  • You didn’t have a real plan or structure to keep things organized.

  • The fear of messing up stops you before you even try. Analysis paralysis is real.

  • You’re constantly distracted (hello, TikTok, reels, and group chats anyone??).

  • Life throws curveballs, and the routine doesn’t adjust to keep up. In other words, we must learn to PIVOT!

Bottom line: If it’s not fun, meaningful, or in line with what truly resonates with you, sticking with any routine or new habit will feel like an uphill battle.
